Partners in Education open their doors to future engineers

DAF: a look behind the scenes of high-tech production

Students were given a unique opportunity to experience the production process at DAF up close. During a motorised tour of three impressive factory halls, they were introduced to the various steps involved in truck assembly. The tour not only offered visual insights, but also in-depth knowledge: Freddy Hurkmans gave a lecture on the Controller Area Network (CAN), a technology that students can directly apply in their current projects.

Actemium: learning by doing in the Edulab

Recently, students were warmly welcomed at Actemium. Bart van Leuken presented an informative programme in which the students actively got to work in the Edulab. In addition to the hands-on part, they were given an inspiring session on the various career opportunities within Actemium, which gave them a clear picture of their future prospects in industrial automation.

In addition, Embedded Software students also participated in the Actemium Automation Awards and achieved a fantastic 2nd place!

Haval: a visit from Software and Smart Industry students

Also, third-semester Software and Smart Industry students visited Haval, a manufacturer of reusable plastic food packaging. Together with Q3, the client for the professional assignment, Haval demonstrated the production process as well as the software the students are working on. The innovative dashboard, which provides insight into the efficiency of the fully automated production line, was set up by Fontys students in an earlier project. The next steps will be taken this semester.

Rotterdam Vice Squad: Innovation in investigation thanks to Fontys students

A visit to the police station at Doelwater 5 offers a unique insight into the complex, international investigations carried out by the Rotterdam Vice Squad, where IT plays a crucial role in dealing with both victims and suspects, who often have a high level of technical knowledge. To stay one step ahead of these suspects, the Vice Squad works as a Partner in Education with Fontys and utilises the fresh perspective of students. Under the supervision of Marc Jonkers, Open Learning students are currently developing concrete tools integrated with social media that enable the police to anticipate suspects' mistakes more quickly – an innovative collaboration with a direct social impact.

Building future-oriented education together

These company visits are invaluable to our students. Not only do they offer a realistic insight into the professional field, but they also help students make informed choices about their careers. We are therefore grateful for the involvement of our partners and their willingness to share their knowledge and experience.
